How Should the U.S. Handle Immigration?

Thomas Saenz, president of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, spoke with Harry Smith on what he feels is the correct way to stop the flow of illegal immigrants from entering the U.S.

Thomas Saenz is an excellent spokesperson for his group. Thomas Saenz is against securing our border and the enforcement of our current immigration laws. He clearly states that the current level of "legal" immigration is insufficient and doesn't meet the economic demands set by employers. But is that enough of a reason to allow "illegal" immigration? Shouldn't our country have the right to decide who and how many people it allows into our country? And isn't a law worthless if it is not enforced?

People come and take the under the table jobs or the jobs that a normal person would not normally want. Well now that there is no jobs those jobs that are being taken by the illegal immigrants are leaving educated people jobless.

@whereeaglesfly100 Actually back in the late 80's they did pass a similar law which is still on the books. It provided for a $10,000 fine PER DAY for each illegal that was employed. As far as I know, even though businesses were caught, none were punished to the full extent of the law (the law actually read, up to $10,000) and we have reached a time of total non-enforcement. But, you're right; if we can dry up the job market, that would be the end of illegals in our country.

"immigrants only take jobs that Americans refuse to take" is a fiction. Fact is, it allows those in the agriculture sector to have a cheap labor force. Better than this is to make working in agriculture more competitive salary-wise so Americans will work those jobs.. Will it cost more for produce?....Of course it will but, you and I will have the choice to buy or not to buy it. Currently we have no choice in supporting illegals and providing social services for aliens.
