My addendum to "Making Sex Work." I am still convinced that the only reason certain feminists despise the sex industry is the "sex" part of it.

  • Sorry that was rude of me. But I do agree that you tend to over simplify things. But I dont think that just because all industries have bad parts to them that we should just forgive them all and forget they exist. Pornography creates a sexualized uni-dimensional caricature that is depicted as always open, available and desirous of men. This view of women is morally wrong, and an industry that systematically portrays women in this way is morally bankrupt.Im not a rad fem,Im a man wit my eyes open

  • @Quantum803 "Pornography creates a sexualized uni-dimensional caricature that is depicted as always open, available and desirous of men."

Even if this was true, so what? Mainstream movies do the exact same thing all the time, just without the naked, sweaty parts.

"This view of women is morally wrong"

Your view of morality is immaterial, as is mine and anyone else's. Like I said before, if you simply disapprove of porn, then there's nothing to discuss.

  • You need to educate yourself a little more miss Peach. You obviously havent travelled much in your own country. And if you have, you did it with your eyes closed. Watching pornography is NOT merely a "thought crime". The use of pornography poisons one's view of women, undermines social justice, distorts one's view of sex and sexuality, damages one's view of men, and ultimately undermines one's humanity. Start looking deeper at these issues instead of just liking the sound of your own voice. Plz.

  • @Quantum803 " The use of pornography poisons one's view of women" How? "undermines social justice" Social justice?? ... HOW? "distorts one's view of sex and sexuality" How? "damages one's view of men" How? "ultimately undermines one's humanity" By having sex on camera? HOW? I see a whole lot of asserting and no evidence to back it up. If you simply disapprove of porn, then there's nothing to discuss. But to state such things as facts, you need a mountain of evidence.

  • @Quantum803 First off feminism as we know it now is based on a series of lies and logical fallacies that would insult my intelligence to describe. Eg "paternity" my ass. But anyway I want to tell you a story. I was on a porn site.Like 43% of the people online. Anyway I saw a comment by a guy called "Andy" voicing similar concerns. So a guy called "Get a life Andy replies with "Just take your cock and wank on her Andy." That is the truth behind porn. It's just for self gratification.

  • Just because things are better here doesn't mean that women should just accept inequality and discrimination. If you want to settle for less pay, and getting less respect than men, that is your decision, and that is fine for you. I on the other hand will not keep quiet, or settle for being less. One out of four women experience sexual assault (rape, attack, molestation) before they are eighteen. One in five girls on college campuses are raped. These are not problems I wish to "deal" with.

  • Spot on P.

  • @Quantum803 What the hell is "moraly bankrupt"?

  • @berriesinacup

And I agree that women have it better now in the Western world than they do practically anywhere else or any other time. But that doesn't mean that things are perfect. As long as society justifies, excuses and condones the rape and degradation of women as a general theme, I will continue to protest it, because that directly infringes on my rights.

  • @berriesinacup I myself watch porn and think it is a natural thing to be sexually aroused when you see other people sexually aroused. It's like a form of empathy, instinctual human connection. Porn itself is not what I have a problem with, or movies about sex and violence. The industry itself in these cases reflects and affects societal norms, and these norms in society include things like slut shaming, rape justification, and the extreme sexual objectification of women's bodies.

  • @xxxThePeachxxx

I agree with Quantum803. I really like most of what you have to say and I completely agree with not infringing on others' rights. But what Quantum says about the porn industry is generally correct (that it depicts women in that way). What you said about mainstream movies is also correct. They come from the same culture.

  • While I mostly agree with this video (not that that matters), I have an issue with the term "feminism" if the point of feminism is to promote equality between the sexes.

Ignoring that I actually believe equality make-believe (individuals regardless of sex are not equal to each other).

Equality between the sexes implies the interaction of women AND men. But the term feminism refers specifically to women (as if androism could mean equality). The term appears to be counter to the supposed intent.

  • Umm, last time I checked feminism was for pornography?

  • I have never wanted to brutalize women due to porn. I am all for porn that more women will enjoy. Kudos to this video.
