This has been a Explorer Scout event which began in 1954. All Cayucos are dug out from a tree and then fine tuned by the scouts. Only a small piece of fiber glass is allowed for repairs. There are no rudders allowed for trophy class bouts. Trophy class are eligable registered Explorer Scouts.

I did this as part of my Explorer troop in 1960. We had a large cayuco called the slave galley as it was filled with the lesser
motivated guys. We actaully struck and swamped a smaller
cayuco. We finished but not in good time.
