Here I am talking during my Hemo Dialysis run explaining my machine (the Fresenius 2008K) in 2007 (I have also been on the 2008H). At the end another patient named Al who got his transplant in the spring/summer of 2007 was also interviewed.

You can probably tell from this video that I am not the best at making videos with myself in them. Also during my run I tend to be a little irritable so don't hold it against me .. please.

I finally got my kidney transplant after waiting 6 1/2 years, on Sept 30th 2007 but it didn't work until Nov 14th 2007. Still not making any Epo so I take shots but at least I am off the machine now. Still not back to work however but works demands I return by July 2nd which actually ruins my plans of attending the transplant games in the US for July 11th or the Canada Transplant games a month later as I don't think they will let me have a vacation again that soon.

  • Hi angie.. im going to be in CANADA maybe 1st quarter of 2009.. I am a dialysis nurse and would be nursing in CANADA as soon as i got there.. by the way im a Filipina.. But we are using B.Braun machines in our unit.. Do u mind if I ask u a favor?.. Would you please share me a video about the fresenius machine, and how u connect the tubings, how it works.. etc.. it would really be of great help to me to know these things ahead of time.. i just want to familiarize myself..

  • I am no longer on it anymore as I finally got my kidney transplant so it would be hard to make a new vid. I really wanted to do a vid on how to hook everything up but my dialysis unit started getting a little picky about videos that would be posted publically. Sorry.

  • Hi Angie, How are you doing? I am a nephrology nurse from Australia, I just watch your clip, the sodium setting is quite high (155-142), we don't use any above 140 as to prevent sodium gain during dialysis. and all the machine in my centre set as temp 35.5C, to minimize cramps or hypotension. your manchine is set at 37C. It is a interesting exposure to me.

    Cheers

  • Thank you John for your input. Yes after reading from other patients I have thought the temp could be lower but the air conditioning is always so low for the nurses having hot flashes that maybe that was why they kept it high for us (so we wouldn't freeze). Looking back however I only was terribly cold if I was having the chills from fever. I didn't know about the salt but my BP was not high at all on Hemo and my fluid gains were no more than 4L per 3 day a week treatments. But I will tell them!

  • Thanks Gus! Yeah I saw you did feature this! Thanks! :) During the year of 2007 both people in this video (Al Simpson and myself) got Kidney Transplants and are doing well :) I think it is great when new patients can see videos online to know what to expect :)
