HDTVNEWS LIVE! RUSSELL CROWE signing autographs at STATE OF PLAY RED CARPET, here WITH TV PRESENTER, Steve... A really AMAZING Film! R Crowe's performance brings us a Film above expectations! Oscar® winner Russell Crowe leads an all-star cast in a blistering thriller about a rising congressman and an investigative journalist embroiled in an case of seemingly unrelated, brutal murders. Russell Crowe plays D.C. reporter Cal McAffrey, whose street smarts lead him to untangle a mystery of murder and collusion among some of the nations most promising political and corporate figures in State of Play, from acclaimed director Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland). Handsome, unflappable U.S. Congressman Stephen Collins (Ben Affleck) is the future of his political party: an honorable appointee who serves as the chairman of a committee overseeing defense spending. Everyone seems to agree that he is the rising star to be the next partys contender for the upcoming presidential race. Until his research assistant is brutally murdered, but buried secrets come tumbling out. McAffrey has the dubious fortune of both an old friendship with Collins and a ruthless editor, Cameron (Oscar® winner Helen Mirren), who has assigned him to investigate. As he and journalist partner Della (Rachel McAdams) try to uncover the killers identity, McAffrey steps into a cover-up that threatens to shake the nations power structures. And in a town of spin-doctors and wealthy politics, he will discover one 'sad' truth: when billions are at stake, no ones integrity, love or life is ever safe.
A film that comes perfect in a time like today as Russell Crowe (starring a journalist) says we live in a time where there is a 'crisis in serious journalism'.
This film is all about 2 or 3 important concepts: 'examination of friendship, myth of objectivity, privatisation of war'...mention Russell Crowe.
The strength comes also from Film director Kevin Macdonald and his 'understanding of the medium ' says R. Crowe. He adds 'This is probably the most subversive studio movie I have ever been involved in. a very brave film...(...) It doesn't come up with very nice things to say about humanity and the delivery of news and veracity of politicians. So I think it's a very brave film to go into for your 1st(step)... into hollywood big budget studio movie, and in fact it's very brave from Universal Studio to put the amount of money it costs to make this movie on a table for a subject matter or a type of film that people have been 'shying' away from nearly 4 years...' A conspiracy thriller! REVIEW©2009 Apr24.HDTVNEWS.
