http://www.EmploymentCrossing.com This videos is about the FDA hiring 1300 doctors and scientists. The Food and Drug Administration is hiring more than 1300 scientists and doctors in the hopes of better protecting the public health, according to the Associated Press. The staffing drive, launched just five months ago, will result in an estimated 10 percent increase in the FDA's work force. Recent years have seen a mass exodus of scientific talent from the agency, in the wake of budget cuts and scandals. Many FDA scientists took industry jobs or retired; but many of these experts are now returning. FDA critics say the staffing increase is only a first step, albeit a much needed one. "This is really just bringing them back to where they were in earlier years," said William Hubbard, a former FDA associate commissioner now leading a lobbying effort for sustained increases in the agency's budget. "It restores losses that they have incurred, but they still have a long way to go to where they can make improvements." The FDA is responsible for the safety regulation of most types of foods, dietary supplements, drugs, vaccines, biological medical products, blood products, medical devices, radiation-emitting devices, veterinary products, and cosmetics.
