This short presentation from Donna Ziegenfuss of the University of Utah's Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence demonstrates a model and process used in a graduate-level online course, Cyber Pedagogy -- CTLE6510, that is taught through The Center of Teaching & Learning Excellence. This course helps graduate students learn about online teaching and learning as they design and begin to develop their own online courses. The model is based on a "backwards design" course design approach outlined by L. Dee Fink (2003) in his book, Creating Significant Learning Environments. This model can be adapted to other types of training and development opportunities and at the University of Utah it is also being adapted to a collaborative process for developing and assessing online course grant projects.

  • This is very true! You have to really create a special course to take full advantage of the new online technology that is available.
