Dear Timothy Spall, You, my dear sir, are fantastic! This and "Almost Famous" and Winston Churchill.
Indeed.
Bravo.

@LdHighEverythingElse filming Topsy Turvy with faithful reconstruction of a few scenes of the Mikado cost $20 million which has not been fully recovered. Have you surplus funds to support a full production?

Some have noticed the youthful beauty of Ms. Louise Gold who in the film Topsy-Turvy plays the actual Rosina Brandram who acted Katisha. With all due respect to both lovely ladies, the plot demands that Katisha be "a most unattractive old thing with a caricature of a face" for there to be any credibility in her lament "why may not a cheated maiden die?" after she is jilted.

Katisha, splendid! So much better than the usual 'old hag' - a pity they could not rope the cast together for a full production... A

I don't think a more authoritative Katisha could be imagined. She wouldn't even need to ask me to bow. . .

It is ALL about Katisha

@AliceTRoyal ... Timothy Spall, was also in 'Chicken Run' as a rat called 'Nick' ( the little fat one) the other rat 'Fletcher' was voiced by Phil Daniels. They had a charming little converstaion at the end about who came 1st the chicken or the egg... strange eh!!! ... :0)x

@vetriet Yeah....this is a great performance (and song, obviously.) It's hard not to be humming that phrase for a half an hour or so, minimum..."Bow...BOW...to his daughter-in-law Elect" / "Bow, bow, to his daughter-in-law elect!"
The original Savoy production of The Mikado featured Rosina Brandram as Katisha--who Gilbert himself described as an actress "whose dismal doom it was to represent undesirable old ladies of sixty-five but, who...could never succeed in looking more than an attractive eight-and-twenty (it was her only failure)."
Louise Gold was portraying Rosina in the film. It seems to me that she captures Gilbert's description remarkably.

Unbelievably good performance. The orchestra plays to perfection, and when Katisha commands them to bow, the mad gleam in her eye is priceless.
