Gameplay from Real Sports Tennis, playing on the Atari 400/800 XL/XE 8 bit vintage home computer. Retro Gaming.

Big thanks to my good friend Mark for sending this game to me, along with many others, on a very cool flash cart.

This is not a review, walkthrough, playthrough, or demonstration of my playing ability.
It's more a case of me speaking my thoughts while playing the games, many for the first time, and most for the first time in a very long time... so it's all a little spontaneous and random.
Predictably, as I never practice before recording, I usually play very badly.

Given that I am playing many of these games for the first time, and everything I say is completely off the cuff, you probably shouldn't take what I say overly seriously. The opinions that I express are my feelings at the time, but it's entirely possible that they would be different if I were to take the time to get to grips with the game.
However, given that these videos are intended to show that "first time experience", I believe they have some validity or merit.
If you'd like to know more about why I make my videos the way that I do, it's all explained in this video

  • The Atari 5200 version of this game is pretty interesting because it actually uses the keypad on the controller to control where you want to hit the ball.

  • @Croooow111 Yes, I'd heard that. I actually have one of those... should probably try it out on this game.

  • This looks pretty ok. I do like Tennis games but some are very hard.

  • ive done a couple of tennis short vids, most tennis games are frustrating but this looks ok - though i'd need to practice how to control shots otherwise the 'cpu' would just return everything for ever

  • Looks like a nice game.

  • This actually looks like a really fun tennis game and makes me want to dig out Wii Sports again to play the tennis there. I think it is strange that I actually watched the whole episode because I won't watch 4 minutes of tennis on television, but a guy playing old video game tennis on the internet and I am entranced. Just strange.

  • Like many other I've played this one on 2600 as well and this version seems to be exactly the same with minor graphic changes. Nothing really to say here, except that i've seen this video after Rescue on Fractalus...so there is the reason I can't say much about this one

  • Ooooh - not played this one... he says, turning around and clearing some space in the Fortress of solitude to set up the a8

Plus, when you size it up aginst Match Point on the Speccy... xD

  • This one looks great, a jazzed up version of the tennis game on the 2600. The perspective seems a bit weird though - it seems the markings are drawn such that the guy at the top has a lot more 'court' to run around in. Nevertheless, those shot animations are fairly impressive for the Atari.

  • proof (if proof were ever needed) the simplicity can create a fun game

i too suck at timing in tennis games
