At 1347 on Thursday 14th May, Springvale and Noble Park brigades were paged to a factory fire in McWilliams street Springvale. Shortly after responding FO Nash from Springvale requested an additional Pumper and once on scene called for one aerial appliance. Dandenong Pumper 2 and Platform were both responded.

Crews faced a timber and furniture factory 15m x 50m that was heavily involved in fire. All workers had evacuated safely and crews moved to a defensive firefight due to structural integrity.

The fire involved the front half of the factory and then spread to the rear half as crews were unable to make access to the seat of the fire.

The Platform was relocated to the rear of the factory to offer protection to surrounding factories along with accessing the rear of the factory involved and ground crews were finally able to make access to the rear of the factory via a neighbouring premise.

Operations Officer Gavin Thompson became incident controller with FO Nash and FO Wilkie took up Sector Commander roles. Pumper 31 from the MFB also responded to boost water supplies in the southern sector.

The fire was listed as under control at 1531, with a stop on it at 1556. Crews worked until 2130 to make the area safe and black out hotspots; the cause is still under investigation.

  • hey tubester, full time stations have 90 seconds to gear up and get the truck out the door as soon as the call comes through. They don't always take their time and you should have respect for them,

  • Lmfao this is near our school everyone was watching it

  • 90ml

  • hey what size lines are they runnin from the platform truck.

  • The first part showing the crew gearing up and responding P1 was staged for the benefit of the camera crew on station, and after parking in the engine bay, the actual call came in, note P1 is in station when P2 and the Platform respond?

  • dont they do enough for ya mate
