Oakland Police Department Injure Another War Veteran During Occupy Oakland Protests

Kayvan Sabehgi, an Iraq/Afghan Army Ranger Vet, was walking away from an Occupy Oakland gathering, when confronted by a line of Oakland Police. After asking the officers why they were lining up, Kayvan was assaulted and suffered a lacerated spleen due to a brutal baton beating by the OPD. Kayvan was then arrested and held in a cell for 18 hours with no medical attention, despite his repeated requests for help.

"They lined up in front of me. I was talking to one of them, saying, 'Why are you doing this?' When one moved forward and hit me in the arms, legs and back with his baton. Then three or four cops tackled me and arrested me." - Kayvan Sabehgi, Source: The Guardian 11/4/11

Kayvan went to an Oakland area hospital and remains in intensive care, after his release from jail.

@tOxikPhlegm cause they didnt break any laws, or sit and annoy cops all day. maybe theres a lesson that can be learned from them? notice the obeying the law part...... if the ows would just obey the law, and not be hostile and confrontational with the cops, they prolly wouldnt get bothered. but thats common sense......

wwclay86, as do I as well my friend. You and I both know that there are many Police Officers who are prior service, specifically any MP from the various branches of Our Armed Forces. They are put in a pretty messed up situation when it comes to scenarios like this. One can only imagine how they feel when they find out a Veteran was possibly maimed by an encounter with them or their coworkers.

wwclay86, solid points my friend! They do need focus in a major way. Just about every movement has someone funding it. Grassroots Movements are rarely what they say they are. Organized Money heads them, and can bring some order to chaos. One can only hope that the money doesn't compromise their mission. Your use of Squared Away brought a smile to my face.
