Okay, it's now official. European snobbery towards the US is a joke. I'm sitting here watching the UK govt. declare war (and reject efforts for diplomacy) over a miniscule island that had nothing but symbolic meaning to their country's interest. The US mediated, but Britain rejected it b/c it was feeling bad about itself domestically. The clips of its citizens euphoric with nationalism over a tiny island.
I HATED Bush, but I also hated the cliches leveled upon US citizens. Mirror..look.in!

Wow, just wow. Margaret Thatcher, from a psychological/sociological standpoint is a fascinating leader.
Looking back, it's striking how she was able to successfully convince the British people that "principals" governed her decisions, when it now seems quite clear it was that toxic combination of ego and paranoia. For a woman who thought "victimhood" was the worst vice ever, she sure did do a ton of rationalizing. Class and gender dominate her thoughts, and an extreme insecurity is clear.
