Gates was a better businessman than Jobs. He also guessed right about where to put his company's resources... into the O.S.
I feel Jobs saw Apple as a computer company, not an O.S. company. But the Mac is not a snazzy box with an LCD screen. The Mac /is/ the O.S. It's the experience.
