That's not quite accurate. Blacks had basic human rights, they just didn't have any constitutional or civil rights. That was TANEY'S opinion, anyway. Slaves, on the other hand, were property.

Don't be stupid arguing that Foner didn't use strong enough language. The value here is in the lesson. The bottom line is that the United States of America's citizens need to know just how evil and backward the country was back then. Many extreme conservatives don't want it known because of what it says about his ancestors. The truth is the light. Never assume that things couldn't possibly one day return to this kind of insanity. FIGHT EXTREMIST VIEWS if we don't want a return to such insanity.

Dred Scott said blacks were so inferior, they had no more rights than a bucket of shit. They were not even human in eyes of the law.

How does Foner describe Dred Scott? As denying "citizenship" Dred Scott denied HUMANITY -- literally. It said slaves were PROPERTY you stupid fuch.

@namespatrick Taney, Lee, Davis, etc, all belonged to the religion that said God didn't mind if you beat a slave girl to death, as long as she didn't die the first day. If she died a day or two later, no problem. You were only punished by God if your slave died on the spot, during or right after the beating.

The Confederacy was FOUNDED on this great truth of God ordaining slavery.
