A technique to apply decals to geometry by not interfering with UV maps. To add multiple decals add more layers in the layered texture node and repeat the procedure. Sorry for the sync problems.

  • This helped a lot - I hadn't really learned how to use layered shaders before and was frustrated by trying to use a png.

Only one small suggestion - pause just a little over the things you are selecting, so that we can be sure we are selecting the correct thing, too. :)

    Great tutorial!

  • Nice to hear this.

  • I love your vid, its realy clear what you do, yet if you make other vids, show the whole screen please and tell what program you are using, what version.

But now i have a problem, i use maya 2011, and when you make the layerd texture i dont get the option to click Projection/ Normal and the other option. So when i do the things you do, i get a 2d texture node, and not a 3D texture box like you see @ 1:37. Help? :X

  • It took a while to find, but this is Exactly what I was after. Thanks a heap for putting this up.

  • nice video. if you are looking for geometry decals you can use Decal Creator from Inland Studios.
