This is a sneak peek of some of the coral forms that will be making up the Sydney Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef Project. The variety is amazing, and the vision here would probably only represent about 10% of the final reef. Enjoy these images from the workshops, the Reef will be at the Powerhouse Museum from the 21st August 2009 - 30th August 2009. Cheers!!

  • nice but what are they used for?

  • The Institute for Figuring's web site explains it best, but in a nutshell it's a mixture between Art / craft / science / maths / environment. Helping to raise awareness of the damage being done to coral reefs through crocheting forms using a basic mathematical algorithm. These forms represent hyperbolic space, and strongly resemble sea life. The exhibition was amazing to be part of.

  • That is so cool!

  • Thank-you so much! I'll be posting video of the Reef exhibition too. (Early September). Cheers!!
