Mostly shot during one day while I was welding the frame and tail of a 3600mm diameter turbine following my own 'recipe'. Showing some of the tricks I use to get the correct angles etc. http://www.scoraigwind.com/axialplans/index.htm Nigel drilling and driving tractor.

  • The welding: mmmm 50%

  • Yes, I know, but it's not a welding competition.. It's just a demonstration of what works well enough to last for years using rusty pieces of steel and some very basic skills in a short time. I'd be happy to get hints on how to improve my welding, but I have no concerns about its strength. And the design does not call for any superior welding abilities.

  • A but its nice to see good welding, do you weld off grid? I used to weld with three 12 v batterys and a resistor before I had the price of a welder, (still havent..)

I hope to live off grid some day.

Your turbines are a credit to you, keep up the good work

  • @oilpressing Yes of course I feel good when I do a nice weld. I started out building my own welder using a car engine and some old dynamos (fiun but time consuming to keep it all working) but now I have an inverter welder that runs off a 6kw diesel genset you can hear and see in the background.

  • Well, as you once said, the design seems to keep evolving. This seems less complicated than some earlier designs I've seen. Thanks for the inspiration. I built my first axial flux, recently. I don't think my magnets are strong enough, but it was mainly a proof of concept and to go through the whole process one time before I spent the bigger bucks. I gained the experience of carving two small sets of blades, also.

  • Thank you.

  • Excellent
