Former Democratic Senator from Alaska and 2008 Presidential candidate Mike Gravel, interviewed by Mitch Jeserich, Sonali Kolhatkar, and Larry Bensky on Sarah Palin, John McCain's VP pick. (Sep 1st, 2008)

For the record, on another interview in July 08', Mike said he "hopes" Obama wins because McCain is a "nutcase", although recognizing that Obama isn't much for change. (check it out on the Leonard Lopate show website)

In any case, Gravel just got a twit of an interviewer here, gun to his head he'll favor Democrats from all the interviews of him I listened to, but to him either party is generally awful and offers more of the same with minor differences that can hardly be seen under a microscope.

You can see at the end that he wasn't supporting Palin; he was merely responding to overt criticism of her. "She's not my cup of tea, but at least I can have the objective ability to take it for what it is at face value and not go running around complaining about Trooper Gates or her child's misconduct."

Keep in mind that was before the campaign, and before she was subjected by Republicans. The only reason he was avid to defend her this time is because the hosts were avid to attack her on nonsense. He had a lot of criticism about her too on other interviews.
