When I really thumped my bible, I interpreted it to mean it was inappropriate for Christians to even interfere with the politics of a fallen world, and those waiting for it demise were working against god's stated prophesy to attempt to improve or carve out kingdoms here.

What really pisses me off about that line of crap is that I was RAISED a Baptist fundamentalist and knew my bible inside and out. A fundy in good conscience could make an argument that the early hebrews were a theocratic monarchy, with Jahweh as invisible king and the mosaic law as its constitution, but a republic? No fricking way. And a republic under MOSES, who the bible states categorically was NOT allowed to enter the promised land?
