Most of Alaska is NOT on the road system. To get to our villages you go by boat or plane. My village of Kasigluk is a twenty-minute flight from the city of Bethel, which is, in turn, an hour's jet flight from Anchorage, Alaska's largest city. Our village lies on the treeless tundra near the Bering Sea coast. Three Yup'ik (Eskimo villages) are seen in this video. The first is Nunapitchuk. The other two villages have the same name (Kasigluk) but the smaller village (with the large blue school building) is the older one (Akiuk). The newer village (Akula) has the airport, the wind machines, and larger, newer housing units. Happy traveling!
