4/5

From the live performance on May 2, 2009.

You Are Dissolved is a sound performance project.
In it I arrange a system of radio transmission and reception with which I interfere using my body in space.
I intend to implicate myself within a system of noise, otherwise to be enfolded into an order - to be dissolved.
Through the barely existent control I have over this system, I introduce ideas related to longing, desire, loss, and the inability to express my internal world.

More information can be found in chapter four of my thesis, which you can find on my website through Scribd.

I use many samples, altered and looped digitally. Also in use are an FM transmitter which transmits the samples, a consumer FM tuner, a vintage Grundig transistor radio strapped up like a guitar, a dictaphone cassette player, and a vintage Garrard portable valve turntable.

The portable radio is used as an improvisation device - I am basically tuning to various radio stations. What I get is not planned by me, it just happens to be on the air at the time. I disrupt the field of FM transmission with my body and the interference from the Grundig receiver.

This is a cover of Alva Noto (Carsten Nicolai), from the album "Xerrox Vol. 1" released on raster-noton, 2007.
I modified the original elements of Nicolai's composition to suit my theme, and destructed them in my own way, probably much more procedural and basic than how he originally did it. This one is considerably more noisy and less majestic, more brutal. It also has a sudden end.
The subtitle I have given it relates to the position of the song in the performance, and the significance it has for me, as a reaction to my own fear. A diagram of Duchamp's dielectic of desire can be found in my thesis.

  • Nice idea, with better sound would be nice... Why you don't route the audio?

  • I don't understand what you are trying to do.
