Practice run of Touhou12's Stage 5 on Normal difficulty using ReimuA.
The first part shows the death itself. The second part (0:14) shows whatever happened earlier that run.
The death resulted in no change on the life counter, and granted two new bombs as is normal. I wondered whether this were a glitch, or if the actual maximum lies higher than the game says.
Turns out the limit is one beyond the shown maximum. Starting a practice stage starts you off at the actual maximum, so dying for the first time here will seem like you didn't die at all.
Funny. Yesterday, I was playing Reimu B and found out I can do this.

The max lives you can get are 9, actually. It's so the life pieces gotten with 8 lives won't go to waste, but any pieces obtained with 9 lives in stock are still lost.

You can do it with the bombs as well.

Happened to me in a run too. I deduced that the extra life Nue's shiny bubble throws at you in the middle of Stage 4 overrides the eight lives you may already have and counts as a ninth. Don't know if this was intentional.
