Got an old PC lap or desktop you have hanging around, you don't feel like junking it, and you need a scoring machine for your salle or home?

The Virtual Scoring Machine is what you need!

Created by a competitive fencer (not an engineer.....so you don't need a degree to learn how to use it!), this wonder of innovation turns any PC computer running Windows down to 98SE into the most full-featured, kick-butt scoring machine around....instantly becoming the best box in the joint!

Go to http://enlightenfencing.com

Here are the highlights (which include some features you won't see on ANY other scoring machine in the world):

Large scoring lights (depending on the size of your monitor)

Integrated scoring clock and score-keeping

Remote control that has better reception than a Favero (especially if you're at the end of the piste)

Yellow/red card indicators

Automatically moves to the next period with the 1 minute break in DE

Priority determination

Automatically resets to epee to shut off the buzzer if you're in foil or sabre and unhook for a long time
(and we all know how irritating that ^&^%# box is when changing a body cord!)

Runs all three weapons

Change timings with a mouse click (either for experimentation or when FIE plays with the rules again)

Built in team match setup

For training purposes, a mode that allows you to see the break in foil if it wasn't long enough to fire the light

USB powered....no external power source needed (except for the computer itself)

Can be connected to a big screen TV, or even a projector if you want to put the thing up on a wall.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also available optional V-reels, inexpensive floor cables (think a modified bungie system....but easy to set up and you don't get tangled in them).

The retraction system is NOT part of the scoring circuit...the fencer/box connection is directly through the floor cord, so any repairs to the f/b connection are far, Far, FAR easier than trying to repair a Favero or Uhlmann reel).

Compatible with all existing floor reels

Features a quick disconnect in case someone fleches off the end of the strip so he doesn't pull the box off the table.

Easy to set up, pack, and transport

When properly set up, it does NOT walk down the strip with the fencer it's attached to (or move behind the end of the strip for you to trip over)

Replacement of the retraction unit is a simple matter of a couple of screws and a key ring

Hands down the best improvement in fencing scoring equipment EVER. Has been used at USFA competitions in the SoCal, Orange Coast, and San Bernardino divisions...soon to be demonstrated at the San Jose NAC.

At one recent tournament, a fencer on a different strip looked over at the VSM in use and was heard to say "I kinda wish I was fencing on THAT box!"

Comes with your choice of the controller unit.

If you're a new salle, a school club, or even a private party looking for an easy way to get a strip setup....this is a serious no-brainer!

And all for less than the cost of a FLOOR REEL!

  • This on the whole is a pretty good idea! Well done!

I think though that the extra information boxes, while seeming like a good idea would be detrimental to the fencing. Too soft attacks happen fairly often so instead of concentrating on the next hit, fencers could start relying on looking at the box. Which as we all know is never good!!

Cheers for developing this though, very nicely done.
