Jehan Alain - selected piano works - 'Lumière...'

The full title of this evocative short piece is 'Lumière qui tombe d'un vasistas'

Jehan Alain (1911-1940) was first and foremost famous as an organist and composer of highly original and evocative organ music.

He was also a keen pianist and composer for the piano before his tragic, untimely death during WW2 - a huge loss to the world of music.

Thanks to the efforts of a very few pianists, this music has been championed and it comes across as being indeed original, basking in the aftermath of impressionism, but aware of the classical forms and of the innovative musical progressions of the time.
