attempting my own cover of this song, I couldn't get all the way through without crying. Such a powerful song.

True story. At the time I was a young boy about 4, so I don't remember the incident. But it was not too far, in western terms!, from where I lived in southwestern Saskatchewan, Canada. I have always connected with this song, partly because of geography, but mostly because by fate, I ended up working with Saskatchewan Department of Natural Resouces. I fought forest fires as a "grunt", and eventually became a crew boss on a fire team in northern Sask. Had some anxious times, but nothing like this.

I played this last night, washing down the smoke and dust with good oregon micro brews after two weeks of prescribed burning. It's May and drier than dry for May, lot of spot fires in friggin' May in the Blue Mountains. Shaping up to be another one of those fire seasons. Be safe my friends! It took a few times, but I finally got through doing a cover of this song. I can't do Keelaghan or Cry Cry Cry justice, but I couldn't let a song as good as this one go by without singing it in front of an audience at least once.
