Macintosh Accessibility for the Visually Impaired

This is a quick overview of the Zoom magnification utility and the VoiceOver Screen Reading utility that are built into the Macintosh. This is the kind of thing that a user who has low vision would use to access their Mac. Unlike full-featured Windows access solutions, VoiceOver & Zoom are built into the Macintosh, right into the operating system, it is IMPOSSIBLE to crash VoiceOver. Much like other parts of the Mac, it just works. This was done using a DEMO copy of iShowU so I apologize for the text on the screen.

What is iShowU?

iShowU is a screen recording utility that allows you to create videos of what you do on your computer, audio input included. One thing to note, though, is you need to pay for it if you don't want the "iShowU" thing up there. I'm trying to find an open source substitute. I don't want to pay $20 for something that I believe is free for Windows (I could be wrong about that, too, though).

Hi there. Glad to see someone doing youtube videos on the accessibility stuff. I am visually impaired too and when I first started using voiceover there wasn't a lot out there in terms of videos. I was thinking of making some myself ;) this was great
