Stone is considered the most important element in pond garden design. Size, placement and type are all critical factors in the success of a design. Ideally the stones should be dark and weathered but not too overpowering. Stones are essentially the bones, adding structure to the garden. Plants are the flesh. These images were taken just after the stones were painstakingly moved into position with the help of a crane, as many weigh over 3,000 pounds. For this project, I hand selected the moss-covered stones in Pennsylvania and shipped them to the site.
