From the phonograph invention in 1877 to the arrival of CD in 1982, Science Museum curator John Liffen talks us through the history of sound reproduction highlighting a new generation of record players which hit the market from the mid-1960s.

  • very interesting but wtf has it to do with W&G - is this the only way to get kids interested these days?

  • Hi there, good to hear you enjoyed the video!

Wallace & Gromit's inventions are at the heart of the Cracking Ideas exhibition, which talks about innovations and creative thinking. Exhibits include some inventions from the Science Museum collection (such as the record player). We hope that by talking about inventions and innovations we can inspire kids (yeah!), but also adults.

If you have been to the exhibition or you are planning to come let me know your thoughts!

  • I'd love to own that record player! if the guy thinks it's such a shame it's in a museum I will gladly take it off his hands! Lol

  • There used to an Institute for Recorded Sound near the Albert Hall, Exhibition Road. This collection was on reel to reel uher tapes. It has been digitised.
