WASHINGTON, March 13--At today's Budget Committee mark-up, Senators had an opportunity to ask technical questions of Chairman Murray's staff director and deputy staff director, who were are the technical staff responsible for crafting the budget at the Majority's direction.

Under intense questioning from Sen. Sessions, the staffers admitted that despite claims of $.1.85 trillion in deficit reduction, the true deficit reduction is only a fraction of that due to the failure to account for the cost of eliminating previously enacted spending cuts in the form of the sequester. Eliminating the sequester results in a net spending increase and there the $1.85 trillion deficit reduction claim is false. It also means the proposed tax hikes are simply used to fund a further increase in spending.

Once the sequester is accounted for, and other gimmicks are removed, the true 10-year deficit reduction figure is $300 billion. Over the next decade, that means the United States will still accumulate another $7.3 trillion in debt. The Senate Democrat proposal never comes close to balancing, and the total size of the budget increases 60 percent from today's levels.

This "Non-Binding Resolution" passed without meeting the requirements of Statutory Pay-As-You-Go Act of 2010 PL 111-139 and did not meet the requirements of Budget Control Act of 2011 PL 112-25. Therefore the assumptions in this law drafted by Chairman Murray's staff were false and wrong. This budget would trigger another round of Sequestration Cuts in 2014 because of the errors by Murray's staff. The Murray Sequestration Cuts.2014.
