From May 1939 through June 1949, Our company (All American Aviation) employed a unique nonstop airmail pickup and delivery system, invented by Dr. Lytle S. Adams and modified for commercial use by company engineers after Richard C. du Pont acquired Adams's patent rights. Used to deliver airmail to small communities scattered throughout rugged terrain in western Pennsylvania and West Virgina, the system was also exploited in World War II to tow gliders aloft, and to rescue personnel trapped behind enemy lines.

  • I'm a filmmaker working on a documentary about the Airmail Pickup system. Does anyone know the original source and/or copyright holder for this footage? Drop a comment in my channel or e-mail the address on my channel comments page.

  • @SSA71454 This is a great video. Your mom gave me my first flight lesson!

  • My mother's first two husband flew AM 49 for All American Aviation, and died on the job in crashes--Gary Porter crashed at Bellefonte PA in 1947 and Bill Burkhart crashed in West Virginia in 1949.

  • Awesome video. In the late 1950's early '60's my Dad owned one of the Stinsons used for this system. When he purchased the aircraft he also received a trunk with all of the drawings and manuals for the system. Unfortunately all of the paperwork and the trunk were destroyed by termites (in Panama). I know he will enjoy this video. Recently a friend of his who restores Gullwing Stinsons was made aware of my Dad's old SR-10 Stinson by a gentleman that owns several.

  • I've been looking for footage of the A.M.P.S. for years! It's really interesting to see just how it worked *and I'm not just saying that because I happen to be Dr. Adams' grandson*

  • hey, cool video. If you would like to get this video more exposure I use thetubeviews . [com], you should check them out sometime

Wow, I have to say, this Video is unique!
