Are the ones that they sell at Walmart the same knife/quality as other ones? I've had both and the Walmart one seems cheaper

I saw one the other day at my local knife store, and it was the original frame locking 1660, but with a G-10 inlay in he handle scale, I've NEVER seen one like that before.

I would've figured that the softer steel is for structure and that the harder steel is for the edge

@MisterMinnesota The D2 steel is much tougher than the Sandvik steel used in the rest of the blade, the sandvik steel in the leeks SUCK for breaking. I sell knives at a sporting goods store and the most common comment I hear on the leek is that the tip broke off. D2 is harder but also tougher all-around than the sandvik, it's a tool steel which is very close to a carbon steel.
i have the 1660 but i was wondering if u knew why it was rusting so easily

@bclark033094 bead blasted finish it opens the metal pors, they need to be wiped down after use and or lightly oiled from time to time

Wouldn't it be better to have the tip be sandvic steel, than have the rest of the cutting edge in d2? That way your tip would be less suseptible to breaking.

@MisterMinnesota yes I woudl agree with that I guess the designers either like the look of this and thought it woudl be cheaper to do it this way OR just dint think of that, lol...
