Syndicated columnist Mark Shields and Washington Post opinion columnist Michael Gerson, sitting in for David Brooks, analyze the week's top news stories.
Democrats compromise. Republicans don't compromise. That's the crux of the "polarization" of the two parties. The country deserves an honest debate of the issues. Our discussions are no where near what they should be.
Bush could put this whole "Ground Zero Mosque" issue to bed by backing our First Amendment rights as President Obama did. The proposed Manhattan Muslim Community Center is a distraction form the real issues (jobs, economy, Afghanistan, medical system, education, etc. etc)
This is a great segment, thanks! It seems like this is the only place left on television where the debate of Right vs Left is held with each side having their own opinions but not their own facts. You don't just strike strawmen, you recognize and respect when there's strength in the other side's argument. That's something we need in order to have a rational public discourse in this country.
