  • Actually, you are 110% correct. Sushi is not RAW - sashimi is "raw". Sushi is better translated as "snack". Much of sushi has cooked ingredients topping it. Tako sushi is topped with boiled octopus; ebi sushi is topped with boiled shrimp; the crab meat in a California Roll is cooked; tomago sushi is topped with a miniature egg omelet!

  • Wow A sushi expert :) Respect! :) Yes thank you I used to love sushi when i wasn't a raw vegan he-he.. So I kinda try to replace it with these RAW recipes. ;))

  • In Raw Food Real World, Sarma and Matthew recommend adding beetroot juice or grated beetroot to the apple cider vinegar for a pink ginger effect :-)

  • Heeey That's a good idea! :) Thanks :)

  • Very good advice! I tried to make some raw sushi. The Nori sheets that you used I believe are raw. I used the same, the untoasted kind. Juliano in his book RAW doesnt use Wasabi. Which makes me think Wasabi is cooked? Instead he uses raw horseradish which is something I must try.

    My tummy is HUNGRY!!

  • Well, the ones I used weren't raw ;( But the ones you soak are. But wash them really well. They're not washed ;) As for wasabi.. Wasabi (as I found out) is a carrot-like root. But I think that the powder they make wasabi of is processed or something. I'm gonna try to get the RAW root ;) As for horseradish. Wow :) It'll be very spicy he-he :) Good Luck ;)

  • @AntonyHeaven believe it or not sarma is a name of Serbian national dish, and maybe the most popular one around here too. What I find interesting is that this girl, who is a vegan I presume, has such a meaty name xD

  • Thank you so much for sharing your recipe. I also LOVE sushi. I have tried to make raw vegan versions with cauliflower as a substitute for rice, but your idea of using almonds is much better. I can imagine it tastes very good, because the cauliflower was quite overpowering in taste. Almonds are yummy. I look forward to try to make this raw vegan sushi!

  • Thanks for sharing

  • Correctness on your part! I do not like any shell fish or octopus raw - sort of like taking a full tablespoon of Crisco and trying to chew it! : o lol And, yes Surimi way bad chemical stuff...by the way, try using Korean Nori somtime...it is cured with sea salt - yum!

  • edwinharbor, do you know that octopus, can be eaten completely raw, just like regular saltwater shrimp. Most of the California Rolls have that fakeass crabmeat called Surimi. Some California Rolls have the real McCoy crabmeat. I would never put surimi in my sushi rolls, I never touch that stuff!

  • Regular nori is toasted. You can, however, buy raw nori, if it's important to you to be 100% raw. I can get it at my health food store, which carries a good raw food selection. If you cannot find it at your stores, you can buy it online.

  • Oh yeah!and don´t worry as far as I know wasabi is or is supposed to be..raw it´s just the grinded wasabi plant with some water..bye

  • I Love Sushi! and though I´m don´t only eat raw stuff I use to ve a vegetarian..but for some health reasons I`m not allowed to right now--anyways..I´m really into healthy eating! And The Almond Sushi sounds like a great Idea .
