traditionally there's a custom of throwing of sacret white scarf during rituals related ceremonies. I'm not sure what exactly is being thrown. Chinese flag? Sen? (shawl-part of monk's robe). There must be something happening upfront. A day or two later there was news of about 20 something killed in Chinese open fire.

In 1988, I watched Chinese troops shoot and kill a group of unarmed and peaceful Tibetan nuns whose only crime was to silently unfurl a Tibetan flag. This happened only a few feet away from me. The Chinese military occupation is very intimidating. The disdain that the Chinese people in Tibet feel for the Tibetans is blatant and obvious when you go there. The Tibetans, in return, deeply resent the military occupation and Chinese immigrants, all of whom have arrived since the 1950 invasion.
