Inevitably, people will be scared of this sort of thing to begin with. Because it is not widely known in the West, it is quite natural to be apprehensive of it. However, you will find people who dont fear Kundalini so much as they fear shedding parts of their minds that do not serve them. The ego is very cunning, and paralyses them into a sense of self preservation, including preserving parts of the mind, old emotions, fear etc.

I totally agree with you on that,. and it's not only the idea of kundalini shedding parts of the mind that is frightening to most, it's even the affect that meditation or energy healing may have on the transcendence of mind that may be initially frightening. Essentially anything that threatens a person's sense of identity is difficult to accept at first, isn't it..

I had a spontaneous kundalini unleashing in Feb 03 after someone did a long-distance Reiki attunement on me. I always suspected that to be the trigger. Having gone through this myself, I never encourage anyone to "try" to unleash kundalini anymore than I would encourage a child to play with fire. It's extremely powerful and can devastate one's life. You definitely don't need a guru to help unleash, but you may need one afterward to help manage and channel this energy, and prevent insanity!
