@blyan85 There originally was, Lincoln, who was Nina's brother, was gay and had a crush on Benny which caused an odd love triangle between the three.

@girlbaby206 nowhere in my comment does it say that in the heights needed a gay character to be good. if fact, i said in my comment that it was great. the latter part of my comment was simply a curious observation. i apologize if it rubbed you, or anybody else, in the wrong way.

@blyan85 a musical doesn't need a gay character in order for it to be good. I thought it was amazing and I don't the plot needed a gay character

@blyan85 The entire play is more about growing up with a Hispanic identity in America, not growing up with a gay identity in it. It is true that there is a large gay population in the Hispanic community, but I think Liz Manuel Miranda wanted to emphasize issues such as economics, class, education, and race. Throwing gender and sexuality, which arent that large of issues in 1st Generation Hispanic American lives, into the mix would have stretched the initial meaning of the play.
