With cruise control and lane departure warning systems already available, cars that can drive themselves may not be too far off.

  • just think if everybody had one there would be no traffic jams or car crashes, because the computer can tell where different cars are within a mile radius and calculate what it has to do in order to avoid other cars and take you to your destination.

  • looks like youll be dead before they come out... and if you ask why... htne look at your comment

  • So your developing technology for the defense force to save lives ? Bullshit

  • @82snowball

either way, I'm probably not going to get one, because I like knowing that I'm in control. Not some robot.

I care about my safety, but I'll never do anything stupid like drinking, texting, etc.

  • a military convoy with no soldiers on board would be usless unless it can return fire, If the enemy knew these cars were just drivng through the desert un manned and un protect the would be sitting ducks to attackers

  • @NYtoIA Same as the word processor devastated typists, however these people will be deployed elswhere in the economy it other service industries. In a perfect world of robot labour we could see the price of goods falling and the retirement age droping to 40 as the need for a sizable work force drops.

  • @Heliyotrope If you look at most car accidents they occur from human error. this technology greatly assist that. there are already cars in europe that sesne other vehicles slowing infront and begin to apply the brakes and gently steer them selves back onto the road if the driver appears to be falling aleep at the wheel.

  • @82snowball the robots are created by imperfect human beings, thus are imperfect themselves. movies are technically stories, so they would usually teach some kind of moral or warning

  • @Heliyotrope movies are not real. What is real is the people dying on the road every day due to human error.

  • @civiccruiser117 Most car crashes where people die or are difigured are caused by human error. I think robot cars would be great for safty reasons.

  • first they need to make a need for speed bot that avoids all the accidents even from the player car attack... if they will make this.. then they can start thinking about real world :)

  • All I know is that I prefer driving my own car, with my own hands, and my own judgment. Sure, I will probably be forced to buy a self-driving car if that tech comes with all future cars, but as long as I can turn it off and on at my will, I guess its ok. I still think people should drive it though...
