Marc-André Hamelin plays Alexis Weissenberg's (a.k.a. Mr. Nobody; 1929-2012) insane Sonata in a State of Jazz, live at WGBH Studio Boston, 2008. That's the 4th movement, "Provocation de samba".

  • Weissenberg - Mr. Nobody?! Not in my opinion. Happens to be one of my favorite pianists. Besides he is really famous.. Madlovba3 - are you a better pianist and/or composer?

  • @geoslav LOL you misunderstood me xD In the 1950's or so, Weissenberg recorded an LP with his own delicious paraphrases of Charles Trenet's Chansons (6 of them), and as he wanted to keep his fame as a purely "classical" pianist, he issued it under the pseudonym Mr. Nobody (the disc was entitled "Mr. Nobody plays Trenet"). He never notated those, but Hamelin did it by ear and recorded all on CD (plus encored them many times). I do love Weissenberg and his works, this one is jaw-dropping! :))

  • Wow great playing

  • I understand. Amazing and fun.

  • Hamelin plays this wonderful sonata like he plays the wonderful works of Kapustin. Very nice interpretation, 5 out of 5 stars.
