It's so sad the way money dominates. Conventional psychiatry is shameful.

@KatiesBipolar but you´re bipolar,..not schizophrenic...?

@screwingtodarkpsy ---I think Mosher's non-drug treatment was basically a supportive, non-directive, nurturing environment. He had 6 people diagnosed with schizophrenia living in the Soteria house at a time. Volunteers (not-mental health professionals) just provided them with a sense of normalcy, etc. and tried to hellp build some bridges between their current psychoses and things they mentioned about their past, etc. There was actually no structered therapy.

Screwingtodarkpsy: They were referring to neuroleptics -- mostly the phenothiazines.

I think Loren Mosher is a great man for his Soteria Project work. Too bad there aren't more psychiatrists like him.

You are very right> I had the pleasure of speaking with Loren in Northampton, MA some years ago and he was truly a gem,
Loren Mosher work with the Soteria Project will be remembered for future generations as the foundation of true mental health.
Unfortunately those living today will never get to see it. We are truly still in the dark ages in terms of helping people with life problems. We are still using barbaric methods (toxic drugs, ect) to suppress symptoms which ultimately creates disability.

There is a Soteria House opening up in Alaska some time this year. I currently live in the old Soteria house in San Jose. We have turned the house into an Artisans Coop :)
