Whatcom Creek Chum Run

The fisher folk gather along the banks of Whatcom Creek during the November 2008 Chum Salmon Run. A fish was being caught almost once a minute. Each angler would have to pass through the gauntlet of other anglers on the concrete wall to get to the stairs to the water at the end to pull their caught fish up.

The location is along side the Whatcom Creek Fish Hatchery run by Bellingham Technical College. Fish snagged or otherwise not allowed to be kept are put into a tube near by that sluices them into the hatchery harvesting pond.
