Fantastic Eagle 8th Hole 1st Round: Tiger hit a big drive at the uphill, par-5 eighth. Unable to see the green, Woods lashed a fairway wood that perfectly caught the right slope near the green, and the ball trickled six feet short of the hole. He poured in the right-to-left eagle putt and moved to 2-under for the round.

Top-ranked Tiger Woods displayed little rust in his return to professional golf Thursday in the first round of the 74th Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club. Playing his first competitive round in 144 days, the 34-year-old Woods fired a 4-under-par 68, bettering his best previous start in 15 appearances by two strokes.

The Masters Tournament, also known as The Masters (sometimes referred to as The U.S. Masters outside of the United States) is one of the four major championships in professional golf. The Masters is the first acknowledged major golf championship of the year, and since 1940 has been played so that the final round is always on the second Sunday of April.

Unlike the other major championships, the Masters is held each year at the same location, Augusta National Golf Club, a private golf club in the city of Augusta, Georgia, USA. It is an invitational event, entry being controlled by the Augusta National Golf Club. The Masters was first played on March 22, 1934 and was won by Horton Smith. He repeated his win in 1936. The current champion of the 74th Masters, winning in 2010, is Phil Mickelson, who won by three strokes over Lee Westwood.

The player with the most Masters victories is Jack Nicklaus, who won six times between 1963 and 1986. Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods have each won four, and Jimmy Demaret, Gary Player, Sam Snead, Nick Faldo and Phil Mickelson have three titles to their name. Gary Player also became the tournament's first overseas winner with his first victory in 1961.
