@ComradeMing You speak anachronistically. For the ancient world slavery was something natural. Also, the Spartans didn't have slaves but helots (εἵλωτες); do you know the difference?
For the ancient Greeks, the concept of liberty was the status in which a nation, a city (πόλις/polis) and its free men/warriors/citizens lived their lives without submitting to a man (king, pharaoh etc). I remind you Aeschylus' phrase: "They (the Greeks) are not named slaves or subjects of anybody" (Persians, 242).

this movie is pure fantasy, the Spartans where brutal barbarian slavers and pedophiles that had no culture, unlike the Achaemenids (the Persian empire) and the other Greek city states. But if any history buff can get over the bullshit history of this movie, its pretty bad ass.
