Aztec Calendar

There is not just one Aztec calendar, there are two more or less independent systems. One calendar, called the xiuhpohualli, has 365 days. It describes the days and rituals related to the seasons, and therefor might be called the agricultural year or the solar year. The other calendar has 260 days. In Nahuatl, the language of the Aztecs, it is called the tonalpohualli or, the day-count. Most information on this Internet-site refers to the tonalpohualli, which is the sacred calendar.

The Aztec (Mexika) and/or Maya people never said anything about the world ending. The calendars just restart. (Just like how our current Gregorian calendar restarts after December) They just assumed that it is the end of the world for some odd reason.

P.S. The Aztecs are actually called the "Mexika" (Me-she-ka) and we weren't all slaughtered by the Spaniards.

Secondly, u can see how it makes more sense when u know the earth is the center of the "Aztec Calendar". The earth is depicted with claws and obsidian tongue, fiercely, bcos thats what one of the aspects earth does, it tears, and dismemebers and rots away all living beings, even dissolves mountains and stones. Briefly stated here. Then the earth has "passed" through 4 simbolic cosmic eras, referred to as suns. Water Sun, Wind Sun etc. And i am sure this was obscured and distorted by europeans.

@rnk1977 Mexica people (pronounced meshica, and called aztecs because of their origin in Aztlan) were not slayered, and diferent from what british invaders did in North America, with the spanish invasion it started a (many times unfair) process that we call "Mestizaje", the mix of two cultures, the result is modern mexican people, with diferent characteristics inherited from our ancestors.
