Poi Rave at MVHS Talent Show 2009

Ok so basically I was thinking a few weeks ago about what I should do for the talent show that occurred a couple hours ago. Last year, I sang Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid. FAIL. I just stood there, clenching onto my dress while my voice was shaking like a leaf. So I decided to redeem myself by doing something completely different and energized. So I went through all of the random talents and thought about what is really fun for me. And it came to me. Raving.
But I wanted it to be big and epic. I wanted my performance to completely contradict last year's performance. So even though I did not start learning how to do it until 2 days before the auditions and 4 days before the actual show, I decided to do poi.
Sadly though, I didn't win. Not even close. Was it because my poi balls were hella heavy? Was it because I didn't do any wraps, corkscrews, and because I messed up my butterfly (which I'm still pissed at myself about)? Or maybe it was due to the fact that I have so little experience?
Oh well. Maybe I'll get em next time ;P

I'm sorry..but you weren't that for the short amount of time you had... I learned all that plus orbitals and reverse weaves in about 3 days. Maybe 2 hours a night.... I'm not trying to put you down but I had a helpful tip.. If glowstringing doing poi or whatever, if you don't know many moves it's better to have no lights other than your poi...it looks more complex to the audience members. And audiences are easily fooled by spinning lights.

@Coral55555 Well it wasn't really my intention to take 1st place or prove myself as a person who is an expert with poi :P Like I said, I did this as a last minute thing for fun. This performance was for myself, and I'll agree it wasn't all that great and I could've done so much more with it, but I had fun with performing and learning something new :)

OH SHIT YOU PULLED A FUCKING WEAVE OUT !!!! the base to like most tricks xD wtf kinda sticks/rope you useing? but whatever this is kinda desgracefull do ito n fire like i do devil sticks nomral poi string and staff learning diabolo and then you pull put the mini glowstick xD its so hard to do that

@Ragingriot99 Well, sir. I think I should at least get some credit for being able to do a weave with 1 pound socks filled with brown rice and only 4 days of practice :P I was just introduced to poi days before that competition. I had to do it the ghetto way. But now I have my crystal poi from flowtoys, so I'm a happy ducky :) And I don't know if you've noticed this, but I was in a high school performing arts building made out of wood. We're not exactly allowed to light things of fire :P

I know its an old vid... For learning that much in a short period of time isn't bad considering there was no one to show you how.. I learned from youtube and its not easy, especially when you know what to do but the little things like turning, only so much or not enough and cant figure where your going wrong no matter how many times you watch the damn tutorial.. lol.. GJ

@bubbubz Maybe you should do something new to redeem yourself after a bunch of practice.. even though it isn't hard to learn alot of the tricks, maybe youtube them and you'll get the hang of it.
