  • Hi A tricky one this my take is that lemon juice is acidic - litmus etc see below

but as a "food" its alakaline? Im off to find a chemist to explain more clearly

"turning red in the experiment when we put lemon juice on blue litmus

paper, we know that lemon juice is indeed acidic."

    Best

  • When the body digests lemons they do alkalize the body. There is something the process of "burning" the lemon that makes it alkaline. It's because it lacks sugar. You're right that lemons are very acidic in their natural state.

  • Lemon contains citric acid C6H8O7 and is therefore acidic with a usual pH of around 4 I dont know who told you lemon is basic but you are very wrong.

  • @TraderDelta Lemon juice converts to alkaline when it enters the body... lemon juice is one of the most alkalizing things you can do to your body... this may clear up the confusion...

  • You are right rediotus138. Lemon is acidic, but when eaten, the reaction is most alkaline.

  • You're right! Lemon is acidic. However, when eaten, it causes a most alkaline reaction.

  • You're right that after the body digests it, it becomes alkaline but in it's natural state it is acidic.
