ENGINE 250 WAS THE FIRST DUE AND CALLED IN THE 10-75. IT TURNS OUT THE FIRE WAS STARTED BECAUSE OF AN OVEN FIRE. SOME OF THE UNITS WERE ENGINE COMPANY 250, 330, 281, LADDER 147, 157, 156, BATTALION 33, 40, RESCUE 2 AND DIVISION 15 AT FDNY BOX 2998

its not overkill if you live in nyc, and to be honest watching all the trucks in action, is better then watching 90% of crap on tv today. by the time you can walk & talk, any ny'er kid is in love with FDNY =) & you stay that way for your whole life.

@P999FFB The reason they leave their lights on is because of the traffic in nyc we have alot of motorists that really dont obay the rules and because the people are in such a "rush" to go nowhere alot of accidents are caused by people disobeying the rules and also to let the people know that the trucks are moving away from the scene and into traffic but when they enter regular flow of traffic their lights go off

I am just saying this to the people that are saying that there is over kill with the amount of firemen there. In my experience just for a small 2nd alarm fire I have seen around 10-15 engines a ladder truck and around 50-60 firemen working the fire. I found that we one got the fire out faster and saved most of the building from catching. So I think that the more people you have the better.

I do understand that it may be misleading but we in America do it so that traffic will still get out of the way for the engines can get back in the main line of traffic safely. So it is mainly a safety feature.
