  • According to me, this is one of the most beautiful melodies in the history of music.

  • What instrument is used for the solo in the beginning? Sounds like a soprano sax to me.

  • @ johnafielding: the solo (beginning of this movement) is played by a soprano sax. Shostakovich loved saxes a lot. He also put a whole section of saxes in Jazz Suite n.2, giving to the alto sax the most well known and beautiful theme of Shostakovich' music.

  • If you listen closely at 2:00 you can hear the ghosts of Piazzola and Shostakovich dancing together drunk.

  • Amazing Classical instrumental Video listening and relaxing, Soul Touching to the point you're falling in love with environment and your self.....Thanks for posting this Great Masterpiece Dear Friend Roxy.....Lots of Love from Quebec CanadaXXX

  • @johnafielding I'm sure it is. There is a Soprano Sax in the following Polka movement.

  • @johnafielding I think it's an oboe, but I could be wrong.
