Make sure you put the LED in the correct direction. I don't use Radio Shack IR's, they are the wrong kind. These are, LiteOn 940nm 150mw LEDs. pt # LTE5208A. The resistor has to be specific to the LED specs.
Highly doubtful. You must be careful not to overheat with the solder iron. The one I used in this video is made specifically for small circuitry. Don't use Radio Shack $10 solder iron, they get too hot. Mine uses 3 AA batteries and is low power/heat.

I cannot get mine to work. I am using a IR LED from Radioshack and the same Energizer pen. Please help.
