    True! Predominantly, baroque strings would have been viols, which had a much harsher, tinny timbre. It would have been unlikely, also, for suspensions, seventh chords and pedals in new keys not to resolve - Baroque music was very by-the-book - which in this case they do not in order to reinforce the theme of a "scherzo" (joke). Hope this helps :)
