In 1985, my wife was on an episode of Kid Quiz, a local (Los Angeles) quiz show for elementary school students. Recently her mom unearthed the videotape and had it transferred to DVD. So we watched it, and stumbled across this astonishing commercial, for the Boy Scouts of America... starring George Takei, who is (now) openly gay. As we all know, the BSA does not like homosexuals...

@AegisNova In reality, many Scouts & adult leaders have been gay. Including Dan Beard & 'Green Bar" Bill. And most of these were NOT abusers. The abusers were either str8 or twisted closet cases with mental health issues.

@MrExasperation It's like they're lumping in gay men with child molesters. It's unfair, but that's the kind of society we've become, treating everyone like a criminal so we're "less likely" to commit a criminal act.

Eh, it's not ironic or hypocritical. At the time, the Boy Scouts of America didn't have a gay-excluding policy.
It's actually a new addition, added in 1991 that gay men could not be Scout leaders. There was no prohibition on gay Scouts until 2004, probably due to the heavy involvement of Mormons in Scouting recently.
A lot of us are very concerned about the puritanical direction the Scouts have taken lately.
